Planning Documents

Natural resource planning has been on-going for many years in the Grande Ronde and Imnaha subbasins. Planning has been done at the subbasin scale and on down to the watershed scale. Links are provided to a few of the more recent watershed-related planning efforts.

Grande Ronde and Imnaha Subbasin Plans

The purpose of subbasin planning in the Columbia River Basin is to document conditions, and evaluate and define strategies that will drive the implementation of the Northwest Power and Conservation Council's (formerly the Northwest Power Planning Council) Fish and Wildlife Program at the subbasin level.

Subbasin plans include an assessment of environmental conditions, an inventory of existing fish and wildlife populations, and a management plan for addressing problems and improving survival of species. The plans are designed to integrate state, federal and tribal goals for fish and wildlife recovery.

Additional information about Columbia River Basin subbasin planning and the subbasin plan documents are available on the NPCC website. The geographic area that the Grande Ronde Model Watershed (GRMW) operates in is commonly referred to as the Grande Ronde Basin and is comprised of two subbasin planning areas, the Grande Ronde and the Imnaha (see map below). The Grande Ronde Model Watershed Foundation (fiscal entity for the GRMW) was the lead entity for the preparation of the Grande Ronde Subbasin Plan. The Nez Perce Tribe was the lead entity for the Imnaha Subbasin Plan.
