2006 Union County River Clean-up

On May 20 2006, Eastern Oregon University’s Cornerstones Program partnered with AmeriCorp, the Grande Ronde Model Watershed, Union County Public Works, and SOLV to sponsor a graffiti removal project at Riverside Park in La Grande. The 43 volunteers removed more than 30 bags of weeds and litter from the park and from the adjacent landowner’s property. Besides the sponsors, volunteers included EOU students and staff, La Grande Head Start, La Grande Middle and High School students, Training and Employment Consortium’s Work Crews, and local citizens.

2003 Wallowa County River Clean-up

On July 19, 2003, 24 volunteers gathered to clean the banks of the Wallowa River from the entrance of Rock Creek to the convergence with the Minam River.  With their combined efforts, the group collected over one ton of trash, including old wheels, a mattress, a microwave, scrap metal, and much more.  Afterwards everyone went down to the Minam State Park for a well-deserved lunch.

2002 Wallowa County River Clean-up

In 2002 the Wallowa River above Wallowa Lake took precedence over other potential clean-up sites after a severe mudslide wiped out the Boy Scout Camp and pushed heavy debris and trash into the river. Workers with heavy machinery managed to pull out much of the larger material from up above while another group tackled the smaller debris directly above Wallowa Lake.
